ChiangMai is Thailand's principal northern city founded in 1296. Ayutthaya is about 76 kms north of Bangkok, Ayutthaya was founded in 1350 by king U-Thong, and was Thailand's capital until it was sacked by the Burmese invaders in 1767. The magnificent ruins of the old city still remain while some have been recently restored. Ayutthaya is a UNESCO World HeritageSite.
